Business Description

MSC Industrial Direct Co., Inc. together with its consolidated subsidiaries is the direct marketers and distributors of a range of metalworking and maintenance, repair and operations ("MRO") products to customers throughout the United States. MSC's customer fulfillment centers are located near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Atlanta, Georgia; Elkhart, Indiana; Reno, Nevada and Wednesbury, United Kingdom. The Company offers approximately 600,000 stock-keeping units through its master catalogs, weekly, monthly, quarterly and promotional catalogs, newspapers, brochures and the Internet, including its websites. It currently offers approximately 600,000 SKUs, representing a broad range of MRO products that include cutting tools; measuring instruments; tooling components; metalworking products; fasteners; flat stock; raw materials; abrasives; machinery hand and power tools; safety and janitorial supplies; plumbing supplies; materials handling products; power transmission; and electrical supplies. Its business strategy is to provide an integrated, lower cost solution to the purchasing, management and administration of its customers' MRO needs. The Company consolidates multiple purchases into a single order; provide a single invoice relating to multiple purchases over varying periods of time and offer direct shipments to specific departments and personnel within a single facility or multiple facilities. It has eCommerce abilities that enable its customers to lower their procurement costs. This includes many features such as swift search and transaction abilities, access to real-time inventory, customer specific pricing, workflow management tools, customized reporting and other features. It offers inventory management solutions with its Customer Managed Inventory ("CMI"), Vendor Managed Inventory ("VMI") systems and vending solutions that could lower its customers' inventory investment, reduce sourcing costs and out of stock situations and increase business efficiency. The distribution channels in the MRO market include retail outlets, small distributorships, national, regional and local distributors, direct mail suppliers, warehouse stores and manufacturers' own sales forces. Its business strategy is to reduce its customers' total cost of procurement for obtaining and maintaining its MRO supplies.
