Metro Inc was incorporated on December 22, 1947. It is a food retailer and distributor and operates a network of supermarkets, discount stores and drugstores in Quebec and Ontario. It operates or supplies 642 food stores in Quebec and in Ontario. The Company also supplies close to 750 small retail outlets. The Corporation's four warehouses and two cash-and-carry stores ensure the procurement and storage of grocery products, general merchandise, non-perishable goods and certain dairy products. The Company operates its business through the following segments: Food and Pharmaceutical. The Food segment operates under several banners including Metro, Metro Plus, GP, Super C, AMI and Food Basics. The Pharmaceutical segment operates under several banners including Brunet, Clini Plus, Pharmacy and Drug Basis. Its products include Meats and frozen foods, Fish and seafoods, Fruits, Dairy products and Drugstores. The company is involved in the distribution of pharmaceutical and parapharmaceutical products throughout Québec. It supplies directly pharmacies, food supermarkets and healthcare institutions, including hospitals and treatment centers. The Corporation also acts as franchisor and distributor for 184 franchised Brunet Plus, Brunet, Brunet Clinique, and Clini Plus drugstores, owned by independent pharmacists. The Corporation also operates 73 drugstores under the Pharmacy and Drug Basics banners and their sales are included in the Corporation's. Supplying non-franchised drugstores and various health centers also contributes to sales. Its principal banners are Metro, Metro Plus, Super C, Marché Richelieu, Food Basics, Brunet, Brunet Plus, Brunet Clinique, Clini Plus, Pharmacy and Drug Basics. Its private labels are identified by the following trademarks, among others: Irresistibles and Selection.
