Metro Inc was incorporated under the name Magasins LaSalle Stores Limited by letters patent dated December 22, 1947 under the Companies Act (Québec). The Company is a food retailer and distributor. It operates a network of supermarkets, discount stores and drugstores. The Company operates or supplies a total of 659 food stores in Québec and in Ontario. It also supplies 752 small retail outlets. It has four warehouses to ensure procurement and storage of grocery products, general merchandise, non-perishable goods and certain dairy products. The Company also operates nine warehouses for the procurement and storage of meat, frozen foods, produce as well as for the supply of small retail outlets. Its subsidiary operates two distribution centers. It operates in the pharmaceutical sector and serves directly, from two warehouses or through authorized suppliers, independent (Québec) and/or corporate (Ontario) drugstores. It also serves health care institutions such as hospitals and nursing homes throughout Québec. The Company uses and has exclusive ownership of several trademarks and trade names. Its principal banners are Metro, Metro Plus, Super C, Marché Richelieu, Food Basics, Adonis, Brunet, Brunet Plus, Brunet Clinique, Clini Plus, Pharmacy, Drug Basics and Première Moisson. Its private labels are identified by the following trademarks, among others: Irresistibles, Selection, Phoenicia and Cedar.
