Maxwell Technologies Inc was incorporated under the name Maxwell Laboratories, Inc. in 1965. The Company made an initial public offering of common stock in 1983. The company develops, manufactures and markets reliable energy storage and power delivery components and systems. The company's products are designed and manufactured to provide failure-free, very low maintenance, performance over the life of the applications into which they are integrated. It is focuses on three discrete lines of products, Ultracapacitors; Maxwell's primary focus, ultracapacitors, are energy storage devices that possess a combination of high power density, extremely long operational life and the ability to charge and discharge very rapidly. Its BOOSTCAP ultracapacitor cells and multi-cell packs and modules provide reliable energy storage and power delivery solutions for applications in multiple industries, including transportation, energy, consumer and industrial electronics and telecommunications. High-Voltage Capacitors, the company's CONDIS high-voltage capacitors are devices that are designed and manufactured to perform in all climates. These products include grading and coupling capacitors and capacitive voltage dividers that are used to ensure the safety and reliability of electric utility infrastructure and other applications involving transport, distribution and measurement of high-voltage electrical energy. Radiation-hardened microelectronic products for satellites and spacecraft include single board computers and components, such as high-density memory and power modules. Many of these products incorporate its proprietary RADPAK packaging and shielding technology and novel architectures that enable them to withstand the effects of environmental radiation and perform reliably in space. Manufacturing operations are concentrated in California and Switzerland. The company generally purchases components and materials, such as carbon powder, electronic components, dielectric materials and metal enclosures from a number of suppliers. The company markets and sells its products through both direct and indirect sales organizations in North America, Europe and Asia for integration by its OEM customers into a range of end products. The Company's geographical regions include China, United States Germany. It held 90 issued U.S. patents and 34 published pending U.S. patent applications, which relate to technologies, processes and designs. Of these issued patents, 58 relate to ultracapacitor products and technology, six relate to high voltage capacitor products and technology, and 26 relate to microelectronics products and technology. Its competitors include a division of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., NessCap Co., Ltd., LS Mtron, a unit of LS Cable, and Groupe Bollore. The Company is subject to stringent federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations and policies governing workplace safety and environmental protection.
