Real Goods Solar Inc was incorporated in Colorado on January 29, 2008. The Company is a residential and commercial solar energy engineering, procurement, and construction firm. Its sales and marketing activities generate leads and secure projects. It offers services, including design, procurement, permitting, build-out, grid connection, financing referrals and warranty and customer satisfaction activities. Its solar energy systems use components from tier-1 manufacturers such as Canadian Solar and Fronius for PV modules and inverters respectively. The Company has designed and installed over 19,000 residential and commercial solar systems. It installs residential and commercial systems that are between 3 kilowatts, or kW, and 1megawatt, or MW, output, with the average residential installation being approximately 6 kW output. It also installs commercial projects in the 3 to 4 megawatts. The Company designs and builds its solar energy systems to meet customer's individual needs and circumstances. Its residential customers are homeowners interested in reducing electrical utility costs and switching to sustainable energy. The residential solar energy systems are rooftop installations of less than 10kW in size. The Company's commercial customers come from industries including retail, manufacturing, service and municipal services. Its commercial solar energy systems is either roof mounted or ground mounted and are between 250 kW and 1 MW in size. The Company competes with other solar companies such as Solar City and Verengo in the residential space and companies such as Borrego, REC Solar, and groSolar in the commercial space. The Company is subject to federal, state and local laws and regulations.
