Real Goods Solar, Inc., was incorporated in Colorado on January 29, 2008. The Company is a residential and commercial solar energy engineering, procurement, and construction firm. It also performs most of its own sales and marketing activities to generate leads and secure projects. It offers services, including design, procurement, permitting, build-out, grid connection, financing referrals and warranty and customer satisfaction activities. It installs residential and commercial systems that are generally between 3 kilowatts, or kW, and 1megawatt, or MW, output, with the average residential installation being approximately 6 kW output. It also on occasion install larger commercial projects in the 3-5 MW range. Its solar energy systems use solar photovoltaic modules from manufacturers such as Kyocera, Sharp, SunTech, and SunPower. It uses proven technologies and techniques to help customers achieve meaningful savings by reducing their utility costs. In addition, it helps customers lower their emissions output and reliance upon fossil fuel energy sources. The Company designs and builds its solar energy systems to meet each customer's individual needs and circumstances. It assesses a customer's annual power requirements and average daily consumption rates in different seasons of the year to size the solar energy system and engineer its wiring. It assesses the customer's roof size, configuration, and composition to determine the optimum location for the solar PV modules. It competes with REC Solar, Verengo and Solar City. Solar integrator services are subject to oversight and regulation by national and local ordinances, including building, zoning and fire codes, environmental protection regulations, utility interconnection requirements for metering and other rules and regulations.
