Noble Energy, Inc. is a Delaware corporation, formed in 1969, that has been publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange since 1980. It is an independent energy company that has been engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development, production and marketing of crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids since 1932. It operates mainly in the Rocky Mountains, Mid-continent, and deep water Gulf of Mexico areas in the US, with key international operations offshore Israel, the North Sea and West Africa. The Company searches for crude oil and natural gas properties, seek to acquire exploration rights in areas of interest and conduct exploratory activities. These activities include geophysical and geological evaluation and exploratory drilling, where appropriate, on properties for which it has acquired exploration rights. The properties consist mainly of interests in developed and undeveloped crude oil and natural gas leases and concessions. It also owns natural gas processing plants and natural gas gathering and other crude oil and natural gas related pipeline systems which are mainly used in the processing and transportation of its crude oil, natural gas and NGL production. The Company encounters competition from other crude oil and natural gas companies in all areas of operations. Its competitors include major integrated crude oil and natural gas companies, state-controlled national oil companies, independent crude oil and natural gas companies, service companies engaging in exploration and production activities, drilling partnership programs, private equity, and individuals. The Company's business is subject to laws and regulations promulgated by international, federal, state and local authorities relating to the exploration for, and the development, production and marketing of, crude oil and natural gas, as well as safety matters.
