Realty Income Corp was incorporated in Maryland and founded in 1986. The Company operates as an equity real estate investment trust, or REIT. The Company offers in-house acquisition, leasing, legal, credit research, real estate research, portfolio management and capital markets expertise. As of December 31, 2014 the Company owned a diversified portfolio of 4,327 properties, 4,257 properties leased and 70 properties available for lease in 49 states and Puerto Rico The properties are leased to 234 different commercial tenants doing business in 47 separate industries. The Company typically acquires retail store properties under long-term leases with retail chain store operators. These transactions generally provide capital to owners of retail real estate and retail chains for expansion or other corporate purposes.
