OAO Tatneft was incorporated as an open joint stock company effective 01 January 1994. The Company is engaged in crude oil exploration, development and production principally in the Republic of Tatarstan, a republic within the Russian Federation. It is also engaged in refining and marketing of crude oil and refined products as well as production and marketing of petrochemicals. Its business activities are conducted through three business segments: exploration and production, refining and marketing and petrochemicals. Exploration and production segment activities consist of exploration, development, extraction and sale of own crude oil. Refining and marketing comprises purchases and sales of crude oil and refined products from third parties, own refining activities and retailing operations. Sales of petrochemical products include sales of tires and petrochemical raw materials and refined products, which are used in production of tires.
