Business Description

Orion Energy Systems, Inc., was incorporated as a Wisconsin corporation in April 1996. The Company is power technology enterprise, engaged in research, development, designing, manufacturing, marketing and implementing energy management systems consisting mainly of high-performance, energy efficient commercial interior and exterior lighting systems, controls, power data management and cloud-based data storage and related services. It also markets and implements renewable energy system consisting mainly of solar generating photovoltaic systems and wind turbines. It operates in two business segments, which it refers to as its energy management division and its engineered systems division. Its energy management division develops, manufactures, sells and provides technical services for the sale of its commercial high intensity fluorescent, or HIF, and light emitting diode, or LED, lighting systems and energy management systems. Its energy management systems deliver energy savings and efficiency gains to its commercial and industrial customers without compromising their quantity or quality of light. Its core energy management system is comprised of: its HIF lighting system; its InteLite wireless lighting controls; its Apollo Solar Light Pipe, which collects and redistributes renewable sunlight and consumes no electricity; and its integrated energy management services. Its technology is designed around managing thermal and optical performance and it is agnostic as it relates to the actual light source. It faces strong competition mainly from manufacturers and distributors of energy management products and services as well as electrical contractors. It competes mainly on the basis of technology, price, quality, customer relationships, energy efficiency, customer service and marketing support. Its operations are subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing, among other things, emissions to air, discharge to water, the remediation of contaminated properties and the generation, handling, storage transportation, treatment, and disposal of, and exposure to, waste and other materials, as well as laws and regulations relating to occupational health and safety.
