Oritani Financial Corp. is a federally chartered mid-tier stock holding company, which is engaged primarily in the business of holding the common stock of Oritani Bank as well as two limited liability companies that own a number of real estate investments. The bank conducts business predominately in the state of New Jersey. The company's business consists of attracting retail and commercial bank deposits from the general public in the areas surrounding its main office, and investing those deposits, together with funds generated from operations, in multi-family and commercial real estate loans, one- to four-family residential mortgage loans as well as in second mortgage and equity loans, construction loans, business loans, other consumer loans, and investment securities. The company originates loans mainly for investment and holds such loans in its portfolio. Occasionally, it would also enter into loan participations. The company's primary sources of funds are deposits, borrowings and main and interest payments on loans and securities. Additionally, the bank offers various deposit products including negotiable order of withdrawal accounts, money market accounts, savings accounts, retirement accounts, and time deposits.
