Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company was incorporated in the Republic of the Philippines. The Company is a telecommunications service provider in the Philippines. Through its business segments - wireless, fixed line, and Business Process Outsourcing, or BPO - it offers the most diversified range of telecommunications services across the Philippines' most extensive fiber optic backbone and wireless, fixed line and satellite networks. It is a fixed line service provider in the Philippines with over 60% of the total reported fixed line subscribers nationwide. The Company's cellular business, which it provides through Smart and CURE to over 41 million subscribers, approximately 99% of whom are prepaid subscribers, is focused on providing wireless voice communications, wireless data communications (mainly through text messaging) and a variety of other VAS, which include: Smart Money; specialized content such as ringtones, logos, caller ringback tunes; Mobile Banking (banking services delivered over the cellular network); international roaming; and games and other VAS developed on Smart's platform. It provides cellular, and wireless broadband, satellite and other services through its wireless business, which contributes about 92% and 8% of its wireless service revenues. It is a provider of fixed line telecommunications services throughout the country. The Company's fixed line business group offers local exchange, international long distance, national long distance, data and other network and miscellaneous services. It has approximately 1,816,541 fixed line subscribers. The Company's 6,400-kilometer long domestic fiber optic network, or DFON, is complemented by an extensive digital microwave backbone operated by Smart. Through its wholly-owned subsidiary, ePLDT, it provides broad-based integrated information and communications technology, or ICT, services focusing on infrastructure and solutions for internet applications, IP-based solutions and multimedia content delivery. ePLDT's main activities are the operation of an internet data center under the brand name Vitro(tm), customer interaction solutions (formerly referred to as call center business), knowledge processing solutions (formerly referred to as business process outsourcing), and internet and online gaming business. It has not been subject to any material fines or legal or regulatory action involving non-compliance with environmental regulations of the Philippines.
