Business Description

Perkinelmer Inc., a Massachusetts corporation was founded in 1947. The Company is a provider of technology, services and solutions to the diagnostics, research, environmental, industrial and laboratory services markets. Through its advanced technologies, solutions, and services, it addresses critical issues that help to improve the health and safety of people and their environment. The Company reports its business in two segments: Human Health and Environmental Health. Human Health segment concentrates on developing diagnostics, tools and applications to help detect diseases earlier and more accurately and to accelerate the discovery and development of critical new therapies. Within the Human Health segment, it serves both the diagnostics and research markets. It provides early detection for genetic disorders from pre-conception to early childhood, as well as digital x-ray flat panel detectors and infectious disease testing for the diagnostics market. In the research market, it provides a broad suite of solutions including reagents, liquid handling and detection technologies that enable researchers to improve the drug discovery process. Human Health segment offers additional products under various brand names, including AlphaLISA, AlphaScreen, AutoDELFIA, Columbus, EnSpire, EnVision, Evolution, FMT, Genoglyphix, Geospizer, inForm, IVIS, JANUS, LabChip, LANCE, LifeCycle, Living Image, Maestro, MultiPROBE, NEN, NTD Labs, Nuance, Oncoglyphix, Opera, Operetta, Packard, Pannoramic, Quantum, ScanArray, Sciclone, SignatureChip, Signature Precision Panel, Specimen Gate, SureFire, TRIO, Twister, VariSpec, Vectra, ViaCord, VICTOR, Volocity, Wizard, XRD amorphous silicon FPDs, and Zephyr. Environmental Health segment provides technologies and applications to facilitate the creation of safer food and consumer products, more secure surroundings and efficient energy resources. Environmental Health segment serves the environmental, industrial and laboratory services markets. For the environmental market, it provides analytical technologies that address the quality of its environment, sustainable energy development, and help ensure safer food and consumer products. Its technologies are used to detect and help reduce the impact products and industrial processes may have on its environment. It provides a variety of solutions that detect the presence of potentially dangerous materials, including lead and phthalates, in toys and other consumer products to help ensure their safety for use or consumption. It provides analytical instrumentation for the industrial market which includes the semiconductor, chemical, petrochemical, lubricant, construction, office equipment and quality assurance industries. All of the Company's businesses market their products and services directly through their own specialized sales forces. The Company's operations are subject to various foreign, federal, state and local environmental and safety laws and regulations.
