Guru Investment Theses on Pinnacle Entertainment Inc

Baron Funds Comments on Pinnacle Entertainment - Feb 25, 2016

Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ:PNK), an operator of regional casinos, was a detractor in the quarter. The company announced in 2015 that it would sell its real estate assets to Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc. (GLPI) in return for stock in that company. As a result of this sale, Pinnacle Entertainment’s stock trades in sympathy with GLPI stock. That stock was under pressure in the fourth quarter due to the fact that GLPI is going to have to sell approximately $700 million in equity in the first quarter of 2016 in order to complete the purchase of Pinnacle’s real estate assets. We believe that once the overhang from this stock sale is removed, both GLPI and Pinnacle Entertainment’s stock will recover.

Baron Funds Comments on Pinnacle Entertainment Inc - Mar 24, 2015

Shares of Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc. (PNK), a regional casino company, declined in the fourth quarter after the company announced it would start the process of converting to a REIT and spinning off its real estate assets. Investors grew cautious ahead of a proposed equity offering that Pinnacle is planning for mid-2015 to help reduce its debt. The Fund exited its position in Pinnacle. (David Baron)
