Paramount Resources Ltd., was incorporated in 1978. It is an energy company which explores for, develops, processes, transports and markets petroleum and natural gas. The Company operates in three segments: Principal Properties; Strategic Investments; and Corporate. Its main Properties are divided into four Corporate Operating Units as follows: the Kaybob COU, which includes properties in West Central Alberta; the Grande Prairie COU, which includes properties in the Peace River Arch area of Alberta; the Southern COU, which currently includes properties principally in Southern Alberta; and the Northern COU, which includes properties in Northern Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Northeast British Columbia. Strategic Investments include: investments in other entities, including affiliates; investments in exploration and development stage assets, where there is no near-term expectation of production or revenue, but a longer-term value proposition based on spin-outs, dispositions, or future revenue generation, including oil sands and carbonate bitumen resources held by Cavalier, and prospective shale gas acreage; and drilling rigs owned by Paramount's wholly-owned subsidiary Fox Drilling Inc. The Corporate segment is comprised of income and expense items, including general and administrative expense and interest expense, which have not been specifically allocated to main Properties or Strategic Investments.
