GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the companyÂ’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

EXXON Mobil: Its High Dividend Yield Is Your Best Weapon Against Market Volatility
Exxon Mobil (XOM) is one of the highest-paying dividend stocks on the market. The company operates 46 refineries in 26 countries located in major markets around the globe and it maintains a production capacity of about 6.3 million barrels per day. Exxon is unarguably the largest oil refiner in the world, and it is also the largest among the global oil and gas companies. Additionally, Exxon Mobil is the largest producer of natural gas in North America though its increasing dependence on natural gas has been identified as the cause of its near-term decrease in profitability. Next to Exxon in refining capacity is Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A) which has a record refining capacity of 3.2 million barrels per day. Read more...

Business Description

Royal Dutch Shell PLC was incorporated in England and Wales on February 5, 2002, as a private company under the Companies Act of England and Wales 1985, as amended. The company is an independent oil and gas company. It aims to sustain its operational performance and continue its investments primarily in countries that have the necessary infrastructure, expertise and remaining growth potential. Such countries include Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Qatar, Russia, the UK, the USA and, in the coming years, China. The company is bringing new oil and gas supplies on-stream from major field developments. It is also investing in growing its gas-based business through liquefied natural gas (LNG) and gas-to-liquids (GTL) projects. At the same time, it is exploring for oil and gas in prolific geological formations that can be conventionally developed, such as those found in Australia, Brazil and the Gulf of Mexico. But it is also exploring for hydrocarbons in formations, such as low-permeability gas reservoirs in the USA, Australia, Canada and China, which can be economically developed only by unconventional means.
