Republic Services, Inc. was incorporated as a Delaware corporation in 1996. The Company provides non-hazardous solid waste collection services for commercial, industrial, municipal and residential customers through 334 collection companies in 39 states and Puerto Rico. It owns or operates 194 transfer stations, 191 active solid waste landfills and 74 recycling facilities. It also operates 69 landfill gas and renewable energy projects. Its growth strategy focuses on increasing revenue, gaining market share and enhancing shareholder value through internal growth and acquisitions. The Company manages its growth strategy as follows: Internal Growth. Its internal growth strategy focuses on retaining existing customers and obtaining new commercial, municipal and industrial customers through its well-managed sales and marketing activities. Acquisition Growth, It looks to acquire businesses that complement its existing business platform. Its operations consist of the collection, transfer and disposal of non-hazardous solid waste. Collection Services, It provides solid waste collection services to commercial, industrial, municipal and residential customers through 334 collection companies. Transfer and Disposal Services, It owns or operates 194 transfer stations. The Company deposits waste at these transfer stations, as do other private haulers and municipal haulers, for compaction and transfer to trailers for transport to disposal sites or recycling facilities. It owns or operates 74 materials recovery facilities and other recycling operations. These facilities sort recyclable paper, aluminum, glass and other materials. Its operations consist of the collection, transfer and disposal of non-hazardous solid waste. The Company seeks to provide quality services that will enable it to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. It provides services to a broad base of commercial, industrial, municipal and residential customers. The Company competes with national publicly-owned companies, including Waste Management, Inc., several regional publicly- and privately-owned solid waste companies, and thousands of small privately-owned companies. Its facilities and operations are subject to a variety of federal, state and local requirements that regulate the environment, public health, safety, zoning and land use.
