GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Rudolph Technologies Inc was incorporated in New Jersey in 1958 and was reincorporated in Delaware in 1999. The Company is engaged in the design, development, manufacture and support of defect inspection, advanced packaging lithography, thin film metrology, and data analysis systems and software used by microelectronics device manufacturers. The Company provides process and yield management solutions used in both wafer processing and final manufacturing through a family of standalone systems for macro-defect inspection, lithography, probe card test and analysis, and transparent and opaque thin film measurements. All of these systems feature sophisticated software and production-worthy automation. Driven by market demand for 3D measurement capability in advanced packaging applications, the Company acquired selected assets of Tamar Technology "Tamar", a precision metrology company, of Newbury Park, CA, in April 2013. The Company operates in three business such as; Inspection Business, Lithography Business and Metrology Business. It currently operate in a single operating segment: the design, development, manufacture and support of high-performance process control defect inspection, metrology, and process control software systems used by microelectronics device manufacturers, and therefore have one reportable segment. Operations outside the United States include sales, service and application offices in Europe and Asia. It has various products such as; NSX Metrology System, JetStep Panel Lithography System, JetStep Lithography System, AWX Series, et cetera. Many of the Company's customers and potential customers in the semiconductor device manufacturing industry are companies that require support and service for their semiconductor capital equipment. The Company competes with KLA-Tencor, Camtek and Ultratech. It also competes to a lesser extent with companies such as Nanometrics and Nikon. The Company has a policy of seeking patents on inventions governing new products or technologies as part of its ongoing research, development, and manufacturing activities.
