Rayonier Inc is originated as the Rainier Pulp & Paper Company founded in Shelton, WA in 1926. The Company is a North Carolina corporation. It is Real Estate Investment Trust. The Company is an international forest Products Company mainly engaged in timberland management, the sale and entitlement of real estate, and the production and sale of high value specialty cellulose fibers. The Company owns and operates two specialty cellulose mills in the United States. The Company also engages in the trading of logs. The Company operates in three reportable business segments: Forest Resources, Real Estate, and Performance Fibers. Forest Resources segment include all activities that relate to the harvesting of timber. Real Estate segment include all property sales, including those designated as higher and better use properties. The assets of the Real Estate segment include higher and better use properties property held by the Companys real estate subsidiary, TerraPointe LLC. The Performance Fibers segment includes two major product lines, cellulose specialties and absorbent materials. The Companys Forest Resources segment owns or leases approximately 2.5 million acres of timberlands located in the U.S. and New Zealand. The Forest Resources segment conducts activities related to harvesting of timber in addition to managing timberlands and selling timber and logs to third parties. Forest Resources acquired approximately 88,000 acres of U.S. timberlands. The Company offers high-performance cellulose fibers, cellulose acetate and high purity cellulose ethers with two production facilities in Jesup, Georgia and Fernandina Beach, Florida. The Company operates log trading businesses in the northwest U.S. and New Zealand. The U.S. timber operations are primarily conducted by the Companys wholly-owned REIT subsidiaries. Non-REIT qualifying and certain foreign operations, which are subject to corporate-level tax on earnings, are operated by its wholly-owned taxable subsidiary, Rayonier TRS Holdings Inc. These operations include Performance Fibers and trading businesses, as well as the Real Estate segments entitlement and sale of higher and better use properties.
