Saia Inc, was incorporated on February 4, 2000. The Company, through its wholly-owned subsidiaries, is a transportation company headquartered in Johns Creek, Georgia providing less-than-truckload, non-asset truckload, expedited and logistics services across the United States. It serves customers by providing regional and interregional LTL, truckload, guaranteed, expedited and logistics services. As of December 31, 2013, Saia LTL Freight, its subsidiary, operated a network comprised of 150 service facilities. In 2013, the average Saia LTL Freight shipment weighed approximately 1,376 pounds and traveled an average distance of approximately 741 miles. It has a registered several service marks and trademarks in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including Saia Guaranteed Select, Saia Customer Service Indicators and Saia Xtreme Guarantee. The Companys main competitors include a small number of large, national transportation service providers in the long haul and two-day markets and a larger number of shorter-haul or regional transportation companies in the two-day and overnight markets. It also competes in and against several modes of transportation, including LTL, truckload and private fleets. The Companys motor carrier operations are also subject to environmental laws and regulations, including laws and regulations dealing with underground fuel storage tanks, the transportation of hazardous materials and other environmental matters.
