Business Description

SVB Financial Group was incorporated in the state of Delaware in March 1999. SVB Financial is a financial services company, as well as a bank holding company and financial holding company. Through its various subsidiaries and divisions, it offers a variety of banking and financial products and services. The Company provides its clients of all sizes and stages with a set of products and services to support them throughout their life cycles. It offers commercial banking products and services through its main subsidiary, Silicon Valley Bank (the Bank), which is a California state-chartered bank founded in 1983 and a member of the Federal Reserve System. Through its subsidiaries, the Bank also offers brokerage, investment advisory and asset management services. The Company also offers non-banking products and services, such as funds management, venture capital/private equity investment and equity valuation services, through its other subsidiaries and divisions. It mainly focuses on serving corporate clients in the technology, life sciences, venture capital/private equity and premium wine categories. SVB Financial Group has three operating segments: Global Commercial Bank, SVB Private Bank and SVB Capital. Its Global Commercial Bank products and services are provided by the Bank and its subsidiaries to commercial clients in the technology, venture capital/private equity, life science and cleantech industries. The Bank provides solutions to the financial needs of commercial clients through lending, deposit products, cash management services, and global banking and trade products and services. It also serves the needs of its non-U.S. clients with global banking products, including loans, deposits and/or global finance, in key international entrepreneurial markets, where applicable. SVB Private Bank is the private banking division of the Bank, which provides a range of personal financial solutions mainly to venture capital/private equity professionals. It offers a customized suite of private banking services, including mortgages, home equity lines of credit, restricted stock purchase loans, capital call lines of credit, and other secured and unsecured lending. SVB Capital is the venture capital investment arm of SVB Financial Group, which focuses mainly on funds management. The Company's competitors include other banks, debt funds and specialty and diversified financial services intermediaries that offer lending, leasing, payments, investment, advisory and other financial products and services to its target client base. The Company's operations are subject to extensive regulation by federal and state regulatory agencies.
