SK Telecom Co., Ltd. was incorporated in March 1984 under the name of Korea Mobile Telecommunications Co., Ltd., under the laws of Korea. The Company changed its name to SK Telecom Co., Ltd., effective March 21, 1997. It is Korea's wireless telecommunications services provider and continues to pioneer the commercial development and implementation of state-of-the-art wireless technologies. The Company provides the following core services: Cellular voice services; Wireless data service; Broadband Internet and fixed-line telephone services; and Digital convergence and new businesses. It provides wireless voice transmission services to its subscribers through its backbone cellular networks and also offers wireless global roaming services though service agreements with various foreign wireless telecommunications service providers. The Company provides wireless data transmission services, including wireless Internet access services, which allow subscribers to access a range of online digital contents and services, as well as to send and receive text and multimedia messages, using their mobile phones. It has pioneered new services that reflect the growing convergence within the telecommunications sector, as well as between the telecommunications sector and other industries, including satellite digital media broadcasting, or satellite DMB, service, which enables satellite broadcasting to mobile devices and 'Telematics' service, which makes use of global positioning system, or GPS, technology. The Company provides its core services through its proprietary backbone networks based on CDMA and WCDMA technology. It also offers wireless data transmission and wireless Internet access services through its WiBro network. The Company also offers cellular global roaming services, branded as its 'T-Roaming' service, through service agreements with various foreign wireless telecommunications service providers. Its global roaming service is offered in three basic technologies, in part depending on which mobile phone standards are available in a particular region: CDMA, GSM and WCDMA roaming. The Company offers its subscribers a range of wireless entertainment-related contents and services, mainly through content-specific portal sites that it operates, including: MelOn, Gaming Services, Cizle and Mobile Cyworld. It also offers its subscribers a range of wireless finance-related contents and m-commerce services. Its wireless financial businesses include: Moneta, T-cash, M-Banking, 11th Street and Gifticon. It offers its subscribers a range of wireless news and search services, including access to domestic and international news content, dictionary resources and real-time weather information.
