Silver Spring Networks Inc provides networking platform and solutions that enable utilities to transform the power grid infrastructure into the smart grid. The Company operates in United States, Australia and rest of world.

Silver Spring Networks Inc incorporated in the State of Delaware on July 3, 2002 as Real Time Techcomm, Inc. On August 6, 2002, it has changed its name to Silver Spring Networks, Inc. The Company completed its IPO on March 13, 2013. The Company provides networking platform and solutions that enable utilities to transform the power grid infrastructure into the smart grid. Its Smart Energy Platform enables utilities to transform the existing power grid infrastructure into the smart grid and includes networking platform and solutions that run on top of the network as well as other complementary services. Its networking platform provides two-way communications between the utility back office and devices on the power grid. Our solutions include advanced metering, distribution automation and demand-side management. Our service offerings include professional services to implement our products, managed services and software as a service, to assist utilities with managing the network and solutions, and ongoing customer support. Smart Energy Platform comprises of hardware, software and services and combines with devices manufactured by third-party partners to form end-to-end smart grid offerings. The Company markets products and services including advanced metering, distribution automation and demand-side management solutions, directly to utility customers. Its utility customers are located in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Asia and Europe. The customer agreements range from large-scale deployments across a utility's entire service territory to pilot projects and tests. As of December 31, 2013, the Company had 61 issued patents in the United States and 95 patents granted in foreign jurisdictions. Some of its clientele include Atlantic City Electric Company, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, and CitiPower Pty and Powercor Australia Ltd, among others. It competes against companies like Echelon Corporation, Elster Group SE, Itron Inc., Telensa Limited, Harvard Engineering PLC, Echelon Corporation, General Electric, Royal Philips Electronics, Schreder Group.
