Star Scientific, Inc., is a Delaware corporation. The Company is a technology-oriented company with a mission to promote maintenance of a healthy metabolism and lifestyle. Since the incorporation of its Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals subsidiary in 2007, it have focused on utilizing certain alkaloids found in the Solanacea family of plants, which includes potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplants, initially to address issues related to the desire to smoke or use other traditional tobacco products. Rock Creek has been concentrating on the anti-inflammatory aspects of one of those alkaloids, anatabine. Currently, Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals manufactures and sells two nutraceutical dietary supplements: Anatabloc, for anti-inflammatory support, and CigRx, for assistance in fighting the urge to smoke cigarettes. Since the introduction of Anatabloc, its revenues have been derived almost exclusively from the sale of its anatabine based nutraceutical products and, more particularly, Anatabloc. In addition, Rock Creek has been engaged in the development of other dietary supplements and pharmaceutical products, particularly products that have a botanical-based component and that are designed to provide nutritional support for a range of conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, schizophrenia, depression, and Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroiditis. Rock Creek also has been involved in the development of a cosmetic line of products that utilizes its anatabine compound to improve the appearance of the skin. It introduced Anatabloc Facial Crème in September 2012. Anatabloc competes with other dietary supplements that are marketed for anti-inflammatory support and for use in maintaining a healthy metabolism. Anatabloc Facial Crème competes with other cosmetic products that are marketed as providing an improvement in the appearance of the skin and an improvement to the look and feel of the skin.
