GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Business Description

Industry: Banks » Savings & Cooperative Banks
Compare:OCN, HOME, PBCT, HCBK, FNFG » details
Timberland Bancorp, Inc., a Washington Corporation was organized on September 8, 1997 for the purpose of becoming the holding company for Timberland Savings Bank, SSB (Bank). On December 29, 2000, the Bank changed its name to Timberland Bank. The Bank is a community-oriented bank which has traditionally offered a variety of savings products to its retail customers while concentrating its lending activities on real estate mortgage loans. The Bank attracts deposits from the general public, and uses those funds, along with other borrowings, primarily to provide residential real estate, construction, commercial real estate, commercial business and consumer loans to borrowers primarily in western Washington and to a lesser extent, to invest in mortgage-backed securities and other investment securities. Its lending activities of the Company include origination of loans secured by real estate, including construction loans and land development, one- to four-family residential loans, multi-family loans, commercial real estate loans and land loans. The Bank originates adjustable-rate residential mortgage loans that do not qualify for sale in the secondary market under Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation guidelines. The Bank operates in an intensely competitive market for the attraction of deposits, generally its main source of lendable funds, and in the origination of loans. Its direct competition for deposits comes from large commercial banks, thrift institutions and credit unions in its main market area. The Bank, as a state-chartered savings bank, is subject to regulation and oversight by the Division and the applicable provisions of Washington law and regulations of the Division adopted thereunder.
