The company overcame a weak consumer market with products that are resonating with each of its target customer types, including innovative new cold weather gear that sold well during the frigid winter. Under Armour is also growing its direct-to- consumer sales through additional outlets, full-price stores and improved e- commerce. Shares of Under Armour, Inc. (UA), a manufacturer and distributor of performance apparel, rose 33.1% in the third quarter. Under Armour surpassed analyst expectations in the third quarter with sales growth exceeding 20%. In addition, earnings growth was helped by solid gross margin expansion due to lower input costs. The company continued to make investments in support of future expansion. Under Armour is expanding internationally, growing its footwear businesses, and developing its direct-to-consumer channel. Sales were weaker in the most recent reporting period despite initiatives in women's products and footwear. Under Armour, Inc., was incorporated in Maryland in 1996 as KP Sports, Inc. In March 2005, the Company changed its name to Under Armour, Inc. The Company's is engaged in design, development, marketing and distribution of technologically advanced, branded performance products for men, women and youth. The brand's moisture-wicking fabrications are engineered in many designs and styles for wear in nearly every climate to provide a performance alternative to traditional products. Its products are sold worldwide and are worn by athletes at all levels, from youth to professional, on playing fields around the globe, as well as by consumers with active lifestyles. Its operating segments are geographic and include North America; Latin America; Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and Asia. Its product offerings consist of apparel, footwear and accessories for men, women and youth. The Company markets its products at multiple price levels. A large majority of its products are sold in North America; internationally, it sells its products in certain countries in Europe, a third party licensee sells its products in Japan, and distributors sell its products in other foreign countries.
