GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Domtar Corporation was incorporated in 2006. It is an integrated manufacturer and marketer of uncoated freesheet paper in North America. The Company designs, manufactures, markets and distributes a range of paper products for a variety of customers, including merchants, retail outlets, stationers, printers, publishers, converters and end-users. It owns and operates Domtar Distribution Group, an extensive network of strategically located paper distribution facilities. It also produces lumber and other specialty and industrial wood products. The Company has three business segments: Pulp and Paper, Distribution and Personal Care. The Pulp and Paper segment comprises the design, manufacturing, sale and distribution of communication and specialty and packaging papers, as well as softwood, fluff and hardwood market pulp. The Distribution segment involves the purchasing, warehousing, sale and distribution of its paper products and those of other manufacturers. These products include business and printing papers, certain industrial products and printing supplies. The Personal Care segment consists of the design, manufacturing, sale and distribution of adult incontinence products. In the paper business the Company competes on the basis of product quality, breadth of offering, service solutions and competitively priced paper products. The pulp market is fragmented with many manufacturers competing worldwide. Competition is primarily on the basis of access to low-cost wood fiber, product quality and competitively priced pulp products. Competition is along the line of four major product categories—protective underwear, light pads, briefs and underpads with customers split between retail and institutional channels. Many of the brand name products are protected by registered trademarks. The key trademarks include Cougar , Lynx Opaque Ultra, Husky Opaque Offset, First Choice , Domtar EarthChoice , Attends , NovaThin , NovaZorb and Ariva . These brand names and trademarks have been registered in the United States and/or in other countries where the products are sold. The Company is subject to a wide range of general and industry-specific laws and regulations in the United States and other countries where it has operations, relating to the protection of the environment and natural resources. In particular, the pulp and paper industry in the United States is subject to the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Cluster Rules.
