GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

USA Truck Inc was incorporated in Delaware in September 1986 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of ABF Freight System, Inc. The Company is a transportation and logistics service provider. The Company transports commodities throughout the continental United States and into and out of portions of Canada. It also transports general commodities into and out of Mexico by allowing through-trailer service from the terminal in Laredo, Texas, which is operated by its wholly owned subsidiary. Generally, the Company transport full dry van trailer loads of freight from origin to destination without intermediate stops or handling. The Company's business is classified into three operating segments: Trucking, Strategic Capacity Solutions (SCS), and Intermodal. Its truckload service offering transports freight over irregular routes as a medium- to long-haul common carrier. The trucking segment consists primarily of the driver managers, load planners and customer service representatives. The SCS and Intermodal operating segments are intended to provide services which complement the trucking services, primarily to existing customers of the trucking operating segment. A majority of the customers using the SCS and Intermodal services are also customers of the Trucking operating segment. The Company competes with other truckload carriers, private fleets and, to a lesser extent, railroads and less-than-truckload carriers. The Company's operations are regulated and licensed by various government agencies, including the DOT.
