Washington Trust Bancorp Inc was organized in 1984. The Bancorp is a publicly-owned registered bank holding company and financial holding company. Through its subsidiaries, the Bancorp offers financial services, including commercial, residential and consumer lending, retail and commercial deposit products, and wealth management, through its offices in Rhode Island, eastern Massachusetts and Connecticut; automated teller machines; and its Internet website. It manages its operations through two business segments, Commercial Banking and Wealth Management Services. In Commercial Banking, the Bancorp offers commercial loans, namely commercial real estate and other commercial loans: commercial and industrial; residential real estate mortgages, consumer loans, credit risk management and asset quality, and deposit activities. Wealth management business provides wealth management services to personal and institutional clients and mutual funds. These services include investment management; financial planning; personal trust services, including services as trustee, administrator, custodian and guardian; and estate settlement. Institutional trust services are also provided, including custody and fiduciary services. Wealth management services are provided through the Bank and through Weston Financial Group, Inc. The Corporation also operates a broker-dealer subsidiary, which primarily conducts transactions for Weston Financial Group clients. In addition, the Bancorp also has investment securities portfolio that generates income and provides liquidity for balance sheet management.
