Washington Trust Bancorp Inc was organized in 1984 under the laws of the state of Rhode Island. Through its subsidiaries, the Bancorp offers a broad array of financial services to individuals and businesses, including wealth management, through its offices in Rhode Island, eastern Massachusetts and Connecticut, automated teller machines (ATMs), and its Internet website (www.washtrust.com). It manages its operations through two business segments, Commercial Banking and Wealth Management Services. In Commercial Banking its commercial lending represents a significant portion of the Bank's loan portfolio. Commercial loans fall into two major categories, commercial real estate and other commercial loans (commercial and industrial). The residential real estate portfolio represented 31% of total loans at December 31, 2012. The consumer loan portfolio represented 14% of total loans as of December 31, 2012. Consumer loans include home equity loans and lines of credit, personal installment loans and loans to individuals secured by general aviation aircraft and automobiles. The Corporation's wealth management business generated revenues totaling $29.6 million in 2012, representing 19% of total revenues. It provides a broad range of wealth management services to personal and institutional clients and mutual funds. These services include investment management; financial planning; personal trust services including services as trustee, administrator, custodian and guardian; and estate settlement. At December 31, 2011 wealth management assets under administration totaled $3.9 billion. The Bancorp's subsidiaries include the Bank and Weston Securities Corporation ('WSC'). The business in which the company is engaged is subject to extensive supervision, regulation, and examination by various bank regulatory authorities and other governmental agencies.
