West Coast Bancorp is a bank holding company that through its subsidiaries provides a range of financial services including lending and depository services through its branch banking offices in western Oregon and southwestern Washington. The Company's main business activities are conducted through its full-service, commercial bank subsidiary, West Coast Bank, an Oregon state-chartered bank with deposits insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. In addition, the Bank operates a Small Business Administration lending office in Vancouver, Washington. Bancorp also owns West Coast Trust Company, Inc. or West Coast Trust, an Oregon trust company that provides agency, fiduciary and other related trust services. The company reports two main operating segments: West Coast Bank and West Coast Trust and parent company related operations. The primary business strategy of the Bank is to provide banking and related financial services tailored to individuals, professionals and businesses. For consumer banking customers, the bank offers multiple of checking and savings accounts and check cards, as well as borrowing products, such as personal lines of credit, credit cards and a variety of first and second lien residential mortgage products and other types of consumer loans. For business banking customers, the bank offers a range of deposit products, including checking accounts, internet-based cash management, iDeposit, a remote deposit service that allows business customers to make deposits electronically, and an array of investment services, all with online and/or CD-ROM information reporting. West Coast Trust provides trust services and life insurance products to individuals, for-profit and not for-profit businesses and institutions. West Coast Trust acts as fiduciary of estates and conservator ships, and as a trustee under various wills, trusts, and pension and profit-sharing plans. The Bank competes with other banks, as well as with savings and loan associations, savings banks, credit unions, mortgage companies, investment banks, insurance companies, securities brokerages and other financial institutions. As a registered bank holding company, Bancorp is subject to the supervision of, and regular inspection by, the Federal Reserve pursuant to the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956, as amended (the "BHCA").
