WD-40 Co was founded in 1953. The Company sells WD-40, a multi-purpose maintenance product which acts as a lubricant, rust preventative, penetrant, cleaner and moisture displacer. The Company's products include, but are not limited to, WD-40 Smart Straw, WD-40 Trigger Pro, 3-IN-ONE Professional Garage Door Lube, Spot Shot Pet Clean which is a non-aerosol Spot Shot trigger product, Blue Works product line, and a mildew stain remover under the X-14 brand. In addition, the Company launched a new WD-40 Specialist product line, which consists of certain specialty maintenance products aimed at an expanded group of end users that currently uses WD-40 multi-use product. The Company's brands are sold in various locations around the world. Multi-purpose maintenance products are sold worldwide in markets throughout North, Central and South America, Asia, Australia and the Pacific Rim, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Homecare and cleaning products are sold primarily in North America, the U.K. and Australia. The Company's operating segments include Americas segment which consists of the U.S., Canada and Latin America, Europe, Middle East and Africa segment which consists of countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Asia-Pacific segment which consists of Australia, China and other countries in the Asia region. Its products are classified as Multi-Purpose Maintenance Products and Homecare and Cleaning Products. The Company outsources directly or through its marketing distributors the manufacturing of its finished products to various third-party contract manufacturers. The markets for the Company's products, particularly those related to its homecare and cleaning products, are highly competitive. The Company's products compete both within their own product classes as well as within product distribution channels, competing with many other products for store placement and shelf space. The Company owns numerous patents, but relies primarily upon its established trademarks, brand names and marketing efforts, including advertising and sales promotion, to compete effectively. The WD-40 brand, 3-IN-ONE, Blue Works, Lava, Solvol, X-14, 2000 Flushes, Carpet Fresh and No Vac, Spot Shot and 1001 trademarks are registered or have pending registration in various countries throughout the world.
