Whiting Petroleum Corp is an independent oil and gas company engaged in exploration, development, acquisition and production activities mainly in the Rocky Mountains and Permian Basin regions of the United States.

Whiting Petroleum Corp was incorporated in the state of Delaware in July 2003. The Company is an independent oil and gas company engaged in exploration, development, acquisition, exploration and production activities mainly in the Rocky Mountains and Permian Basin regions of the United States. It is focused mainly on organic drilling activity both on grassroots oil plays and on the development of previously acquired properties, and specifically on projects that it believes provide the opportunity for repeatable success and meaningful production growth. The Company mainly sells its oil and gas production to end users, marketers and other purchasers that have access to nearby pipeline facilities. The Company operates in a competitive environment for acquiring properties, marketing oil and natural gas and securing trained personnel. FERC regulates the transportation, and to a lesser extent, the sale for resale of natural gas in interstate commerce pursuant to the Natural Gas Act of 1938 and the Natural Gas Policy Act of 1978 and regulations issued under those Acts. The Company's oil and natural gas exploration, development and production operations are subject to stringent federal, state and local laws and regulations governing the discharge of materials into the environment or otherwise relating to environmental protection.
