West Bancorp was organized in 1984. The Company operates as the holding company for West Bank that provides full-service community banking products and services to customers located primarily in the Des Moines and Iowa City, Iowa and the Rochester, Minnesota metropolitan areas. It offers trust services found in a commercial bank with trust powers, including the administration of estates, conservatorships, personal trusts, and agency accounts. It also originates residential mortgages that are primarily sold in the secondary market. The Companys loan portfolio includes commercial real estate loans, construction or land development loans, commercial lines of credit, and commercial term loans, as well as consumer loans. The Companys commercial borrower is a small or medium-sized privately-owned Iowa business person or entity. Its commercial loans consist of loans to businesses for various purposes, including revolving lines to finance operations, inventory and accounts receivable, and capital expenditure loans to finance equipment, and other fixed assets. The Company's real estate loans include various loans on commercial properties, and single and multifamily residences. Its majority of construction loans are to contractors and developers for construction of commercial buildings or residential real estate. The Company's consumer loans include loans extended to individuals for household, family, and other personal expenditures not secured by real estate. The majority of its consumer lending is for vehicles, consolidation of personal debts, and household improvements. The Company and West Bank are subject to extensive federal and state regulation and supervision.
