GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Lloyds Banking Group PLC provides a wide range of banking and financial services. Its main business activities are retail, commercial and corporate banking, general insurance, and life, pensions and investment provision.

Lloyds Banking Group is the U.K.'s fourth-largest bank by asset size. The group operates via a multibrand, multichannel strategy offering services through Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland, Halifax, and Scottish Widows. It has over 2,000 branches throughout the U.K. and around 75,000 employees. After heavy restructuring in the aftermath of the financial crisis, Lloyds became a U.K.-focused retail and corporate bank. After the HBOS acquisition in 2009, its market share in the mortgage market more than doubled to 25%.

Herro and Nygren Comment on Lloyds - Jan 11, 2017

We have been following Lloyds (NYSE:LYG) for some time, and the U.K.’s recent decision to withdraw from the European Union translated to a decline in Lloyds’ share price. In our estimation, this price drop greatly exceeded any actual loss of intrinsic value of the company, and we believe Lloyds is undervalued relative to its normalized earnings power.
