New York Times Co was incorporated on August 26, 1896, under the laws of the State of New York. The Company is a multimedia news and information company that currently includes newspapers, digital businesses, investments in paper mills and other investments. New York Times classifies its businesses based on its operating strategies into two segments, the News Media Group and the About Group. The News Media Group consists: The New York Times Media Group, which includes The New York Times, the International Herald Tribune, NYTimes.com and related businesses; the New England Media Group, which includes The Boston Globe, Boston.com, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, the T&G's Web site, Telegram.com and related businesses; and the Regional Media Group, which includes 16 regional newspapers in Alabama, California, Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina, their Web sites, other print publications and related businesses. The About Group consists of the Web sites of About.com, ConsumerSearch.com, UCompareHealthCare.com and Caloriecount.com and related businesses. The News Media Group consists of The New York Times Media Group, which includes The New York Times, NYTimes.com, the International Herald Tribune, IHT.com, its New York City radio station, WQXR-FM and related businesses; and the New England Media Group, which includes The Boston Globe, Boston.com, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the T&G's Web site, Telegram.com and related businesses. The Times is currently printed at its production and distribution facility in College Point, N.Y., as well as under contract at 27 remote print sites across the United States. Additionally, the Company owns equity interests in a Canadian newsprint company and a supercalendered paper manufacturing partnership in Maine. The Company's media properties and investments compete for advertising and consumers with other media in its respective markets, including paid and free newspapers, Web sites, broadcast, satellite and cable television, broadcast and satellite radio, magazines, direct marketing and the Yellow Pages. All of the Company's operations are subject to government regulation in the jurisdictions in which they operate. Due to the wide geographic scope of its operations, the IHT is subject to regulation by political entities throughout the world.
