Owens-Corning, Inc. was founded in 1938. The Company is a global producer of glass fiber reinforcements and other materials for composite systems and of residential and commercial building materials. The Company operates within two segments: Composites, which includes the Company's Reinforcements and Downstream businesses; and Building Materials, which includes the Company's Insulation, Roofing, and Other businesses. Through these lines of business, the Company manufactures and sells products worldwide. The Company maintains market positions in all of its major product categories. The Company's glass fiber materials can be found in over 40,000 end-use applications within seven primary markets: power and energy, housing, water distribution, industrial, transportation, consumer and aerospace/military. Such end-use applications include pipe, roofing shingles, sporting goods, computers, telecommunications cables, boats, aircraft, defense, automotive, industrial containers, and wind-energy. Its products are manufactured and sold worldwide. The Company mainly sells its products directly to parts molders and fabricators. Within the building and construction market, its Composites segment sells glass fiber and/or glass mat directly to a small number of major shingle manufacturers, including its own Roofing business. The insulating products of the Company help customers conserve energy, provide improved acoustical performance and offer convenience of installation and use, making them a preferred insulating product for new home construction and remodeling. These products include thermal and acoustical batts, loose fill insulation, foam sheathing and accessories, and are sold under well-recognized brand names and trademarks such as Owens Corning PINK FIBERGLAS(r) Insulation. The Company sells its insulation products mainly to insulation installers, home centers, lumberyards, retailers and distributors in the United States and Canada. The raw materials used are natural gas, and raw materials, such as asphalt and polystyrene. All of the markets it serves are highly competitive. The Company competes with manufacturers and distributors, both within and outside the United States, in the sale of insulating products and composite products. Owens Corning is committed to complying with all environmental laws and regulations that are applicable to its operations.
