Weitz Funds Comments on Oracle - Nov 11, 2016

Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) is the market share leader in sales of database software and is number two in enterprise software, globally. Oracle has moved aggressively to rewrite its enterprise applications, which were previously available for on premise installation, as Software as a Service (SaaS) products. The company has gained significant traction in moving customers to SaaS and we believe will gain share in the overall enterprise applications market. Oracle recently announced the availability of its Database as a Service offering, which it believes will enable customers to move their database workloads to the Oracle Cloud. We believe the company will grow as its new applications gain acceptance with its large base of customers.

Yacktman Funds Comments on Oracle - May 04, 2016

Oracle (NYSE:ORCL)’s shares rallied after the company reported better-than-expected results. We continue to think the shares are attractive at the current valuation. Although Oracle’s best days of growth are likely behind the company, we think the business can produce strong free cash flow and continue to expand its business over time.

Bill Nygren, David Herro Comment on Oracle - Apr 11, 2016

The largest contributor to performance for the quarter was Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) (U.S.), which returned 12%. Shares reacted positively to stronger-than-expected fiscal third quarter results from the cloud-based business. We believe Oracle’s successful transition to the cloud indicates that the company is on the right track. Management also recently announced a $10 billion increase to Oracle’s existing share repurchase program. Even though its stock has enjoyed recent price increases, we believe Oracle remains undervalued relative to its normalized earnings power.

Steven Romick Comments on Oracle - Feb 01, 2016

We had some puts and takes that drove 2015’s performance. Microsoft and Alphabet (formerly Google) performed quite well but Oracle lagged. Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) continued to transition its business to the cloud last year but it has been proceeding more slowly than investors or the company expected. Concern about the transition and weak software license sales led to the stock’s decline. Given the undemanding valuation and high level of recurring revenue, we used a drop in the share price to increase our position.

Software Companies Show High Value Potential Undervalued Predictable Screener lists top technology stocks
Among companies trading on the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq, software companies generally have been undervalued and predictable. Based on backtesting results, the “Undervalued Cash Flow Screener” bought Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:INTC) and Oracle Corp. (NYSE:ORCL) in January 2013. While these companies presented high value potential during the past three years, other software companies offer better investment opportunities in 2016, including Apple Inc. The cloud war just got a few degrees hotter with Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) publicly throwing in its hat into the Cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service ring. Can NetSuite Take Oracle to $10 Billion in SaaS Revenues? The reality behind Oracle's acquisition of NetSuite
It is a bit of a surprise that Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) is still trading near its all-time high, especially since the company’s revenue has been relatively flat since 2012.
