Chicago Equity Partners LLC is an investment management firm based out of Chicago, Illinois. The company was established in 1989 by founding partners Patrick C. Lynch, David C. Coughenour, and Robert H. Kramer, all three of whom are still with the company today acting as its President, CIO, and Portfolio Manager, respectively. Chicago Equity Partners has grown from its inception to now have 43 employees of which 20 are investment professionals. The company currently operates as a subsidiary of Affiliated Managers Group. Chicago Equity Partners conducts its research both internally and externally, utilizing a quantitative and fundamental methodology with top down and bottom up approaches to make its investment decisions. The company invests in the public equity and fixed income markets on a global scale. Chicago Equity Partners invests most heavily in the information technology sector, which alone makes up over a fifth of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the consumer discretionary, health care, finance, industrials, consumer staples, energy, and utilities and telecommunications sectors, among others to a lesser degree, in order of decreasing allocation. The company’s top 10 holdings together making up 22% of its total, with its top holding being Apple Inc., and the firm has a relatively high turnover rate of approximately 44%. Chicago Equity Partners holds over $10.3 billion in total assets under management spread across almost 200 accounts, all of which are discretionary. Although the company’s total number of accounts has been decreasing in recent years, its total managed assets has been on an upward trend, growing significantly from $6.6 billion back in 2010 to its current amount today. Chicago Equity Partners mainly caters to pension and profit sharing plans and charities, each of which make up almost a third of its client base, and also caters to high net worth individuals, investment advisors, corporations, pooled investment vehicles, and others.
