CIBC Asset Management is one of the largest asset management companies in Canada. The company has over four decades of history and prides itself in being able to combine the “flexibility and focus of a boutique firm with the robustness and resources of a large financial institution.” CIBC Asset Management conducts its research in house with large research teams in each asset class, each team sharing market information and investable insights openly and having “multiple sector or regionally focused analysts dedicated exclusively to industry research and security-specific idea generation.” The company is headquartered in Toronto and has additional offices located around the city, in Montreal, Hong Kong, and George Town and currently operates as a subsidiary of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. CIBC Asset Management provides a variety of products and services including active constrained and active unconstrained currency management, absolute return, global fixed income, global equities, and asset allocations, among others. CIBC Asset Management currently has over $100 billion in total assets under management spread across over 6,800 accounts, almost all of which are discretionary accounts. Its non-discretionary accounts number in the 30s and total approximately $3 billion of its total assets under management. CIBC Asset Management’s total assets under management has made significant growth, increasing from $45 billion in 2010 to twice that amount today, but its total number of accounts has made drastic growth from just over 300 accounts two years ago to well over twenty times that amount today. The majority of its clients are high net worth individuals, which alone makes up half of its entire client base, and also includes corporations, pension and profit sharing plans, charities, state or municipal government entities, investment advisors, insurance companies, and others, listed din order of decreasing clientele. Its mutual fund offerings include the CIBC Money Market Funds, Canadian Bond Index, Monthly Income, Global Bond Fund, and Balanced Fund.
