Independent Franchise Partners is an investment management company owned by its employees and based out of London. The company can trace its history back to the establishment of the Franchise Investment approach at Morgan Stanley Investment Management in 1996 which came under the lead of Hassan Elmasry in 2002. Hassan Elmasry along with fellow managers Paras Dodhia, Jayson Vowles, Michael Allison, and John Kelly-Jones, would leave the company to start their own company, marking the official establishment of Independent Franchise Partners. Independent Franchise Partners conducts its research in house, utilizing both fundamental and quantitative analysis and a bottom up investment approach. The company invests in a variety of public equity markets on a global scale, benchmarking its performance against the S&P 500 Index, MSCI World Index, and the Russell 1000 Value Index. Independent Franchise Partners invests most heavily in the information technology sector, which alone makes up approximately a third of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the health care, consumer staples, finance, and consumer discretionary sectors, in order of decreasing allocation. The company currently has 17 employees with 6 of them being investment professionals. Independent Franchise Partners holds over $13.5 billion in total assets under management spread across 30 accounts, all of which are discretionary. Although the firm’s total number of accounts has gone down in recent years, its total assets under management has grown significantly from its $50 million inception capital, increasing from $3.9 billion back in 2011 to well over three times that amount today. Independent Franchise Partners mainly caters to pension and profit sharing plans, which alone makes up two thirds of its client base, and also caters to pooled investment vehicles, investment companies, corporations and state or municipal entities, in order of decreasing clientele. The company currently offers both Global and U.S. Franchise Equity strategies to its clients.
