Buffett drops by; Legend displays his common touch

Yes, it really was Warren Buffett, the "Oracle of Omaha," sitting with his trademark Cherry Coke and dispensing homespun charm Thursday for the official opening of the RC Willey showroom in Rocklin.It's hard to imagine Donald Trump visiting Rocklin, harder still to envision him putting his arms around the shoulders of his employees and smiling for pictures. But none of those things was beneath billionaire investor Warren Buffett on Thursday. Buffett was in town to cut a ribbon, hold court with the media -- and yes, mingle with the hired help -- all to celebrate the official grand opening of home furnisher RC Willey's first California showroom.


You wouldn't expect the second-richest man on the planet would come to Rocklin to promote a 7-week-old home furnishings store, but 75-year-old Warren Edward Buffett has made a fortune going against convention. In the process, he has become an American business icon.
