Energy mogul T Boone Pickens has been vocal about the need for an energy plan in the U.S. since 2008, though it has as yet failed to gain traction in Washington, D.C. He strongly supports the U.S. transitioning to sole reliance on its own resources and separating from OPEC oil. In a video he produced Aug. 6, Pickens also emphasized the need for electric cars and increasing use of natural gas.





In the second quarter, Pickens acquired 20 new stock positions for a total of 36 positions in his portfolio. This amounted to a sweeping 47% quarter-over-quarter turnover.


The largest new buys were: Whiting Petroleum Corporation (WLL, Financial), Suncor Energy Inc. (SU, Financial), Bonanza Creek Energy Inc. (BCEI, Financial), SM Energy Co. (SM, Financial) and Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. (COG, Financial).


Whiting Petroleum Corporation (WLL)


Pickens purchased 149,440 shares of Weatherford International in the second quarter when the price averaged $47. The holding represents 6.8% of his portfolio and 0.13% of shares outstanding. The price has risen 7% since.
