Boeing workers have voted to accept a new contract, ending a strike that paralyzed jet production for over seven weeks. This decision removes a significant barrier for the American aircraft manufacturer as it aims to restore operations and financial stability.
The new contract, approved by approximately 59% of the union members, includes a 38% wage increase over four years and increased retirement contributions. This agreement was made between Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), representing around 33,000 striking workers.
Jon Holden, President of IAM District 751, described the moment as decisive, noting that more than 26,000 workers participated in the vote. He expressed a strong desire for union members to return to work.
Hourly workers in Washington, Oregon, and California locations could begin returning to the factories as soon as Wednesday.
