OpenAI has officially established a legal entity in South Korea, aiming to advance the application of its artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The company announced plans to open an office in Seoul and is actively recruiting staff to support collaboration with businesses and policymakers.
South Korea ranks as the country with the most ChatGPT paid users outside the United States. Following Japan and Singapore, South Korea will become OpenAI's third office location in Asia. Currently, the San Francisco-based company employs nearly 40 people in Japan and 20 in Singapore.
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has sparked a global AI frenzy. This week, OpenAI's Chief Strategy Officer, Jason Kwon, will meet with government officials and potential industry partners across Asia to discuss AI infrastructure and the use of OpenAI's software.
