Itron, Inc. (ITRI), a leading innovator in energy and water management solutions, announced a pivotal contract with the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO), Greece's primary electricity distributor. Signed on May 28, 2025, the agreement marks a significant step towards the modernization of Greece's electricity grid as part of the nation's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Under this contract, Itron will deploy its Enterprise Edition Meter Data Management (MDM) system to oversee 7.7 million meters, alongside its Utility IQ headend system to manage nearly 1 million new smart NB-IoT cellular meters. This deployment aims to enhance operational efficiency and customer service while providing enhanced insights into energy consumption.

The system's cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) capabilities will help HEDNO reduce upfront capital requirements and benefit from a predictable, recurring revenue model. Pre-integrated with Itron's Intelligent Edge Operating System (IEOS), the solution offers advanced grid management functionalities, including predictive maintenance and enhanced analytics. Moreover, the strategic integration with Microsoft Azure OpenAI leverages cutting-edge AI for improved data insights and operational intelligence.

This project further solidifies Itron's presence in the European utility sector and reinforces its role as a leader in digital transformation initiatives for utilities worldwide. With over 50 million endpoints managed globally, Itron continues to set benchmarks in the utility technological landscape.
