David Winters Purchases 3 New Stocks in Q3

David Winters (Trades, Portfolio)’ Wintergreen Fund (Trades, Portfolio) holds 33 stocks, three of which were reported new in the third quarter. The fund’s portfolio has a value of $1.3 billion and has allocated the greatest amount of its funds into consumer defensive stocks at 33.2%, followed by consumer cyclical stocks at 31.8% of the total portfolio.

In his third quarter letter, Winters highlighted some of the key principles of the fund:

“At Wintergreen, we try to remove the emotions from the investment process and instead focus on long-term opportunities. The Fund has, we believe, a solid portfolio of well financed, conservatively managed businesses that have good prospects and management teams focused on returns for all shareholders. Although market fluctuations are viewed by many as a risk, we believe they can be a gift to long-term investors.”

The three new stocks Winters purchased were: Lorillard Inc. (LO, Financial), C&C Group PLC (LSE:CCR, Financial) and H.B. Fuller Company (FUL, Financial).

Lorillard Inc. (LO, Financial)

Winters purchased 197,654 shares of Lorillard Inc., a 0.89 percent portfolio holding. The stock’s third quarter price averaged $61.

C&C Group PLC (LSE:CCR, Financial)

Winters purchased 1,518,923 shares of C&C Group Plc, a 0.6 percent holding. The company’s share price averaged $4 in the third quarter.
