Guru Sarah Ketterer (Trades, Portfolio), co-founder of Causeway Capital Management, raised her stake in Eli Lilly and Co. (LLY, Financial) by 382,237 shares in the first quarter.

Eli Lilly is a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Indianapolis. The company was founded more than a century ago on May 10,1876. Eli Lilly has approximately 41,000 employees worldwide with clinical research conducted in more than 55 countries. The company discovers, develops, manufactures and sells products in two business segments: human pharmaceutical products and animal health products.

The human pharmaceutical products that Eli Lilly develops and produces include Prozac, the first major introduction in a new class of drugs for treatment of clinical depression; Gemzar®, a drug for the treatment of pancreatic and nonsmall-cell lung cancer; ReoPro®, a cardiovascular drug that prevents blood clots following certain heart procedures, such as angioplasty; and Zyprexa®, now the world's top-selling antipsychotic for the treatment of schizophrenia.

Eli Lilly has a market cap of $85.08 billion, a P/E ratio of 35.53, an enterprise value of $90.23 billion, a P/B ratio of 5.68 and a quick ratio of 1.09.

The animal products that the company produces and develops include Rumensin, a cattle feed additive that improves feed efficiency and growth and also controls and prevents coccidiosis; Tylan, an antibiotic used to control certain diseases in cattle, swine and poultry; Micotil, Pulmotil and Pulmotil AC, antibiotics used to treat respiratory disease in cattle, swine and poultry; Paylean and Optaflexx, leanness and performance enhancers for swine and cattle; Posilac, a protein supplement to improve milk productivity in dairy cows; Coban, Monteban and Maxiban, anticoccidial agents for use in poultry; Apralan, an antibiotic used to control enteric infections in calves and swine; and Surmax (sold as Maxus in some countries), a performance enhancer for swine and poultry.

Eli Lilly is also traded in Argentina, France, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Switzerland and the U.K.

According to GuruFocus Eli Lilly has two good signs that may have influenced Ketterer to add to her stake in the company. The company's Piotroski F-Score is 8 of 8, indicating a healthy situation. The P/B ratio is also close to a one-year low at 5.62. The one-year low is 5.23.

Ketterer named her investment firm after the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland because she wanted something rock solid with great longevity. It is likely she added to her stake in Eli Lilly because the company has 140 years of experience in its industry and has been able to develop and produce a wide range of products for both humans and animals.
