Dear users, as we enter the new year, we would like to host a contest for the Best Stock Ideas 2017. You are invited to participate for Free and the winner will be awarded cash of up to $1,000. The deadline to participate this contest is Jan. 31, 2017.
By the way, the winners for 2016 Contest will be announced at the end of January. The cutoff date for the performance calculation will be the market close prices of Friday Jan. 27, 2017. You can see the performances of the contest portfolios here.
Please follow the steps below to participate. It is Free. The winner will be rewarded for up to $1000 in cash.
Here is how you participate:
If you are familiar with GuruFocus' “My Portfolio” application, you can skip step 1 and 2.
Step 1. Create a portfolio with GuruFocus Portfolio App by clicking on “My Portfolios” as shown in the screenshot below
Step 2. Click on “Create New Portfolio” in the screenshot like below
Step 3. When creating the new portfolios, please select the “Type” as Contest. Give the portfolio a name and enter the stocks. Then click on “Create Portfolio.” Once created, the portfolio can only be changed within the first 7 days. Afterwards, the portfolio will be disabled from adding/removing stocks.
Step 4. Please write brief notes on why you like each stock.
How Will the Contest Be Ranked?
1. Change from the last year: Each contest portfolio needs to have at least 3 stocks. These stocks should have at least an initial stock price of higher than $1.
2. The contest will last 12 months, until January 2018
3. The performances of the stocks included in the portfolio will be averaged, and the result will be used for the ranking. Ranking is based on the outperformance of the portfolio relative to the S&P 500.
4. The ideas are for long only
5. Only the portfolios that have outperformed the S&P 500 qualify for the ranking and reward
6. Each user can only have one contest portfolio.
7. The cash reward will be sent to the user through PayPal or check within 30 days after the finish of the 12-month contest period
8. We will select three winners. The best performer will be awarded $1000, and the next two best performers will be awarded $500 each
