Buffett: I Never Thought Bezos Would Be Where He Is Today

If you asked me the chances of [Jeff Bezos] building up [Amazon (AMZN, Financial)]'s retail operation and also doing something that disrupts the tech industry I would have been very, very long shot, and underestimated the brilliance of the institution. It's one thing to dream but to act on doing stuff online because it takes a lot of ability. In his 1997 annual report he laid out a road map. He’s done it and done it in spades. It always looked expensive and I really never thought he would be where he is today. I thought what he was doing was really brilliant but not be where he was today when I looked at him three, five, eight years ago.
