Wall Street Falls on Thursday

Twitter soars on financial results

U.S. stock market indexes opened lower on Thursday as bond yields continued to rise. Interest rates rose on a strong jobs report last week. Stock markets are in the red and investors should watch the changes closely.

Shares of Twitter  Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) jumped in Thursday premarket trading on the back of the company reporting its financial results for the fourth quarter. The company posted earnings of 19 cents per share on $732 million in revenue. Moreover, the company beat eanings estimates by 5 cents and revenue expectations by $45.94 million. Total revenue grew 2.1% year over year due to strong engagement growth, improvement in revenue products, better return for advertisers and better sales execution.

The net margin reached 12%, which was an improvement from the negative margin reported in the prior-year quarter. Adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) was $308 million, or 42% of total revenue, higher than the $215 million, or 30% of total revenue, for the same quarter of 2016.

Looking ahead to the first quarter of 2018, Twitter expects adjusted EBITDA to be between $185 million and $205 million. The adjusted EBITDA margin is expected to be between 33% and 34%.
