U.S. stock market indexes were in the green Friday, with the Nasdaq set to achieve its best week since 2011.

Shares of Alcoa Corp. (AA, Financial) jumped on Friday on news the U.S. Commerce Department recommends tariffs on steel and aluminum from other countries, including China, Russia and Brazil.

The tariffs and quotas would differ between countries, but the highest ones will be for aluminum going from China and Russia to other countries. The highest steel tariffs on imports include Brazil, China and Russia.

The main European stock markets closed in positive territory. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 gained 0.83%, France's CAC 40 advanced 1.13%, Germany's Dax gained 0.86% and Spain's Ibex 35 climbed 1.21%.

In Asia, Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 1.19%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng jumped 1.97% and China's SSE Composite rose 0.45%, while India’s BSE Sensex lost 0.84%.
