U.S. market indexes were higher on Monday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 24,573.04 for a gain of 212.90 points or 0.87%. The S&P 500 closed at 2,677.84 for a gain of 21.54 points or 0.81%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 7,156.28 for a gain of 49.63 points or 0.70%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower at 16.42 for a loss of -0.99 points or -5.69%.

First-quarter earnings reports helped stocks to gain on Monday. Sectors leading for the day included utilities and materials.
